RE: Looking for a frozen drink

A can of Mango Nectar is a great substitute for frozen OJ, especially the Summer Slushie.

RE: Forced to move by noisy dogs

We've had three dogs in our home when our boys were growing up! Chinese Shar Pei. One is left from that little family and we are looking at another. Incessant barking is unacceptable. But at one point we found out that one of our dogs was being totally rude and barking at our neighbor. We also found out that this was happening about the same time our 14 year old son came home from school. He'd send the dogs out and ignore them!
We corrected the problem but the neighbor still hates us after 8 years. We do not ignore our dogs, we do not ignore our neighbors. On the other hand don't flip out because a dog barks, use your words. Kind communication is the only way to get along.

RE: Retirement plan

Yes, if we can't do this without a payment hang'n over our heads it's just a pipe dream. And yes I know New Mexico has a winter season but not a Minnesota winter season. I hate the 30 below cold "snaps" (whoever named them snaps should be dug up and slapped)they are events. It doesn't have hurricanes, doesn't shake, and no tornadoes that I know of.
Travel and stay a while does sound like the ideal way to truely pick a place though. Things do change over the years but the chase is very interesting at the very least.
It's my dads fault I love the road. I was nine when we packed up the station wagon with the tent, cooler and Coleman stove and left for five weeks. Imagine never being out of flat Minnesota and two days later wake up to snow on the tent high up in the mountains! Haven't shaken the feeling since and I'm 51!

RE: Some times you have to wonder....Frivilous lawsuit??

I concur with jharrelson. 70s, Arabs, but it was a van in the story I heard. It goes along with the story about KFC accidently cooking a mouse, not a chicken part and the guy with a hook for a hand who tries to grab and kill young neckers in the corn fields.
Ya - I'll listen to any story. True or not.

RE: All around experience

Like to fish? Go to the ridiculously RV friendly Mlle Lacs Lake area in Minnesota. Go north on 169 2 hours from the Twin Cities. Pull into the McDonalds in Garrison. They've got free ice. You can walk to everything. Holiday gas station liquor store, etc. etc. Across the street is the tourist info. booth. For $30 bucks a head you can be taken out onto the lake for 4 hours of fishing.
There are of course many choices for the RVr to park and hook up. You are 10 miles away from a casino, 2 minutes from great golf, 30 minutes from Brainerd night life and surrounded by wilderness.
I recommend Garrison cause everything is right there and they will not rip you off with their prices.

RE: Our own Fuel card

We've been told by 4 couples we see every year that they will not be taking their annual 1 month trip to Alaska in July. We will be seeing them more often this year. Their RV will be parked for the full month at our private RV resort. They will be saving for their 1 month trip to the tropics this winter.
Gas prices have gouged everyone this year but all the downsizers are trying to find RV space closer to home. Rice and bean recipies come in handy. Did it before, can do it again!

Well it's certainly fun to do the research! I know that if I could find an RV lot we could own like the one we have in Minnesota we'd be sit'n pretty.

RE: You MIGHT be an RV'r if . . .

You can cook an entire meal over a campfire.:B
Too true-
If your primary goal every day you can't be with your RV you plan meals that leave 3 dishes or less!
If wrought iron has replaced your stainless steel cook ware.
If the restaurant size roll of heavy duty aluminum foil is now your favorite pan.
If you can restart last nights fire with a couple of sticks.
You guys are too fun!

RE: Retirement plan

WOW! Thanks for all the great responses! Just talked to the financial advisor last night (at our house, yeah). Outside of needing heavy duty health care (long term health care plan in force) we will be going somewhere. It's hard not to plan for retirement when you pay so much attention to the financing of it!
The trailer up north will someday be a park model mini mobile home cabin. I mean these things are very cabinish! We're in a gated resort we've loved for the last 30 years. Instead of going on a cruise we've been going up there. I don't think zoning will be a problem. 800 people would be quite upset and you don't want to put a basement in. WATER TABLE! Ouch.
I've just been finding anything I look at in the southern United States is super expensive. If this is true our (plan) will most certainly change.
Thanks for your well thought out advice!

RE: Retirement plan

The money part is already figured out. That's what prompted this plan of action. We have a tendancy to live way below our means.
